Tickets can be purchased at the trailhead ONLY when it is staffed, and if they are not already sold-out online. During the peak season (April thru October) MOST DAYS sell out in advance so very few tickets will be available at the trailhead. Weekends can sell out more than a month in advance.

In the summer, the water depth is usually ankle to mid-calf. It is spring-fed so it remains cold throughout the year. You will be walking through streambeds and over rocks so wear comfortable hiking shoes with ankle support that you don’t mind getting wet. We recommend neoprene or wool socks to keep your feet warmer.
In the springtime, there can be snowmelt runoff which contributes to higher, colder, and faster-moving water. Dress warmly – even on hot days the temperatures in the slot canyon can be significantly cooler.

The Kanarra Falls hike lies on private land owned by the Utah School Trust Lands (SITLA) and the Town of Kanarraville manages the hike through a lease agreement. Ten percent of all funds collected go to Utah schools as administered by SITLA. The remainder pays for employee wages, utilities, supplies, and other maintenance costs.

The town’s water is safe. The creek that the hikers are in is Kanarra Creek and is irrigation water only. It comes from five different springs on Kanarra Mountain and there is water running in the creek year-round. The water is tested monthly and the levels are currently very safe due in part to your diligence in keeping the area free from trash and contamination.
The town’s culinary water is piped 40 to 50 feet underground to a separate spring. At that point it is piped to the water tank and treated. No surface water comes in contact with the town’s drinking water.

The Kanarra Falls Trail is open from dawn to dusk throughout the spring, summer and fall, and has limited hours during the winter. We will be staffed from March through November.
Staffing hours during the summer are 7am to 7pm every day. Reduced hours during the other months will be posted at the kiosk. If you arrive and the kiosk is closed, there is an outside drop box where you can deposit your fee/permit. -
Children age 3 and under are free. All others pay $12 per person.

During the summer, children are welcome, although the hike can be long and arduous for the little ones. Know your abilities and limits and watch them closely, as there are many hazardous obstacles along the trail. When water levels are running high, small children are strongly discouraged, and even adults can be swept off their feet. With the nearest help an hour’s hike away, hypothermia or the slightest injury are real dangers. Use common sense and extreme caution at all times!

Absolutely No Pets! The trail hike and falls lie within a watershed which
supplies both drinking and irrigation water to the Town of Kanarraville and surrounding farms.
Leave pets at home – Kanarra Falls is the watershed for Kanarraville town. Human and animal
feces can cause contamination. Service animals are allowed but must be on a leash at all times
and cleaned up after. Comfort animals are not allowed. -
While Kanarra Falls can be considered a family-friendly canyoneering excursion that doesn’t require special gear or climbing equipment, it can be challenging for anyone with physical limitations to continue on past the first falls. Remember there are several obstacles to climb up and over, slippery/uneven surfaces and a high ladder. The hike can be long and arduous, know your abilities and limits. When water levels are running high and adults can be swept off their feet. With the nearest help an hour’s hike away, hypothermia or the slightest injury are real dangers. Use common sense and extreme caution at all times!

Two Feet/Boot Washing Stations are located in the parking area. There is a water spigot for washing off your muddy boots and feet. Please do not wash mud off in the bathroom sinks.

Cell service is limited, coverage is spotty along the trail. If possible, hike with a companion and notify friends and relatives of your plans before you depart.

If you lose an item, please contact the Kanarra Falls Manager at 435-590-7490. We will hold lost and found items for up to one year. If you can identify the item, we will mail it back to you at your cost for shipping.

Plan Ahead + Prepare
Proper planning and preparation helps hikers accomplish trip goals safely and enjoyably while minimizing damage to natural resources.
Travel on Durable Surfaces
Damage to land occurs when visitors trample vegetation beyond recovery. The resulting barren areas develop into undesirable trails and erosion.
Dispose of Waste Properly
Pack it in, pack it out – Inspect your surroundings for trash or spilled foods. Accept the challenge of packing out all trash, human waste, leftover food, and litter.
Leave What You Find
Allow others a sense of discovery, and preserve the past. Leave rocks, plants, animals, artifacts, and other objects as you find them.
Respect Wildlife
Help keep wildlife wild; observe from afar, avoid disturbing and give them a wide berth, especially during breeding/birthing seasons. Never feed wildlife. Leave pets at home.
Be Considerate of Others
Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be considerate of other visitors and respect their privacy. Keep distance between you and other parties. Let nature’s sound prevail. Avoid loud noises and voices. If you need music, use headphones.
The Canyon is part of the watershed for the Town of Kanarraville, please help keep it clean by packing out all trash and using the restrooms before you go. There are no restrooms or trash facilities beyond the parking area.
Don’t be a vandal, NO writing or carving on the rocks, no graffiti.
Respect the wildlife, be aware of rattlesnakes, if you see one or hear the rattle stay back and leave them alone.
The canyon is constantly changing, Over the years different ladders have been installed to allow access. Do not construct or use any makeshift rope or log ladders
Many injuries (broken legs and ankles) can be prevented by using caution and common sense, do not slide down natural water slides.
